Is Laser Hair Removal Right for You?
Both men and women visit Aesthetica Surgery & Spa for laser hair removal. This treatment can permanently reduce unwanted hair on the face, arms, legs chest, back, and bikini area. It is also a more permanent option for individuals who find frequent shaving or waxing burdensome or ineffective.
Laser hair removal usually produces the most substantial reduction for those who have light skin and dark hair. However, successful results have been achieved for a variety of skin and hair tones. Your treatment provider will explain how much hair removal you can expect based on your physical characteristics.
Some people undergoing laser hair removal are also good candidates for laser skin resurfacing, miraDry®, and other non-surgical procedures.
CBUS Top Pick
Aesthetica has been named a CBUS Top Pick for Best Cosmetic Surgery Practice—that's a big deal! Of the more than 30,000 businesses in the area, the Columbus community voted Aesthetica Surgery & Spa as one of the top 3 in our field. Thank you for voting, and cheers to being among the best of the best!
A Customized Procedure
You will meet with your treatment provider for a consultation and evaluation to determine if laser hair removal will be successful for you. Once you have been cleared for treatment, your laser settings will be specifically regulated to accommodate your age, skin tone, hair color, and hair texture. This will prevent unwanted complications and give you the most effective results, safely. Depending on your concerns, you may have multiple treatments in one or more of the following areas:
- Body: Shaving or waxing day after day can become a hassle. It can also result in unattractive side effects, such as ingrown hairs or razor burn. Laser hair removal can be used on areas of the body that are often shaved or waxed, including the legs, arms, underarms, stomach, chest, and back.
- Face: Many clients seeking laser hair removal are embarrassed by unwanted facial hair. Laser hair removal can safely reduce hair growth on the upper lip or sideburns. However, it should not be used around the eyes.
- Bikini: The bikini area is one of the top requests at Aesthetica Surgery & Spa for laser hair removal. Treatment in this location allows you the freedom to feel comfortable and confident in your bathing suit, without the worry of bumps or burns from waxing or shaving.
Your Treatment
Laser hair removal is a convenient in-office procedure that can take anywhere from a few minutes to 1 hour or longer, depending on the size of the area being treated. You will be asked to shave the treatment area with a clean, new razor 1 day prior to your appointment. This will ensure that the laser accurately targets the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle while leaving the surrounding skin and tissue unharmed. Waxing and depilatory creams must be avoided for at least 2 weeks before your appointment because they remove the hair follicle, which would make laser hair removal ineffective.
Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?
The heat from the laser creates a sensation that is often described as a rubber band snapping against the skin. Most people find this process very tolerable and are relaxed during their treatment. A topical numbing cream can also be used to make your more comfortable.

How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost in Columbus?

We’ll share a detailed price estimate following your personalized consultation with our medical spa experts.
Laser Hair Removal Recovery
There is no downtime needed after laser hair removal. You are able to return to your normal activities immediately and continue with your day. You will be provided with information about what to expect during the next few weeks as the treated hair begins to fall out.
Some people may experience mild redness, swelling, or tingling after treatment. These symptoms normally pass within a few hours. Hair will start falling out from the treated area within a few days and will continue to shed for about 3 weeks or longer. Sun exposure should be limited while undergoing laser hair removal because your skin can become photosensitive.
How Many Treatment Sessions Are Needed?
Because all of the hair follicles are not active at the same time, multiple laser hair removal treatments are needed for the most complete results. Dr. Taylor normally recommends 4 to 5 sessions to ensure the best results. Treatments are spaced out between 4 and 8 weeks, or within about 2 weeks of seeing new hair growth. Periodic maintenance treatments may be beneficial every 6 to 12 months for prolonged smoothness.
